 Prebiotics and probiotics for dogs are dietary supplements that help animals with gastrointestinal problems. These substances act specifically on the colon, but they have different functions:

 Prebiotics are defined as non-digestible food substances, such as lactulose and fructooligosaccharides. Their function is to feed the intestinal flora, that is, the “good” bacteria that naturally live in the intestines. These bacteria have a positive effect on the large intestine, protecting it and promoting good gastrointestinal health.
 Unlike prebiotics, probiotics are live microorganisms, i.e. “good” bacteria. Ingesting these bacteria rebalances the intestinal flora and thus allows for better digestion.

As a result, the intestines stop functioning as expected and symptoms such as diarrhea or vomiting appear. In addition, animals lose their appetite and lose a lot of weight.
